We at Bare Feats are concentrating on identifying the performance gains or losses when running real world applications after upgrading from Tiger to Leopard. I am running Mac OS X Lion. I downloaded the Arduino IDE version 1.01 (I used the exact version in the wiki rather than the newer 1.03) and installed the Time library and the Sanguino extensions. I made the necessary change in the boards.txt mentioned in the wiki in terms of the baud rate. I am obviously missing something but am scratching my head. This Mad Scientist is not actually crazy, he’s just mad someone broke his beakers. There are many articles posted on the web about Mac OS X 'Leopard' sharing tips and gotchas. We at Bare Feats are concentrating on identifying the performance gains or losses when running real world applications after upgrading from Tiger to Leopard.

First we want to thank you for all your suggestions for apps to test under both versions of Mac OS X. We've only just begun with testing but here's what we've learned so far:

PRO APPS

We suspect Apple has optimized their pro apps to run well under Leopard while Adobe may need more time to do the same.

As you can see, Tiger runs all but one game faster than Leopard.

Test 'mule' is an 8-core Mac Pro with 16GB of RAM and a Radeon X1900 XT.

PRELIMINARY CONCLUSION
Don't assume the Leopard will magically speed up your Mac. It might slow it down, depending on what apps you use most often for long periods of time. Hopefully, as apps are tweaked to take full advantage of Leopard, the potential performance gains will be realized.

Apple has been accused of using Mac consumers as unwitting beta testers. Judging from all the reports of Leopard problems and incompatibilities, that theory has new support. Infectious void mac os.

NOTES
FYI, there is a recent firmware update for the Radoen X1900 XT. We experienced no performance gains after the update.

More tests are coming. They will include checking for gains after upgrading G4 and G5 Power Macs. We also plan to test additional applications.
